Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic physicians must complete four years of study at an accredited institution and pass two national licensing board examinations after their second and fourth years, respectively. The program combines conventional medical training with science-based natural therapies.

There are six basic principles of naturopathic care:

The Healing Power of Nature - Vis Mediatrix Naturae
Trust the body's inherent wisdom to heal itself and identify and treat obstacles to cure.

Treat the Whole Person - Tolle Totum
View the patient as a combination of spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional entities.

Identify and Treat the Cause - Tolle Causam
Identify and address the underlying cause of illness rather than exclusively ameliorating symptoms.

First Do No Harm - Primum No Nocere
Choose the most potent, least toxic and least invasive treatments - minimize the risk of unwanted side effects.

Prevention
Prevention of disease can be the key to optimal health. Naturopathic Physicians assess and treat individual risk factors in order to focus on overall health, wellness and disease prevention.

Doctor as Teacher - Docere
The Naturopathic Physician educates the patient on how to lead a healthy, natural lifestyle so that the patient can recognize impediments to health and avoid future illness.
